The Dorothy P. Donalson Library Collection of African-American and Women's Studies was dedicated in 2003 after  a year of careful preparation and collection development.

The funds for this impressive collection were donated by the family and friends of Dorothy Donalson to honor her forty years of service to the Town of Barnstable.

Mrs. Donalson's record of volunteering and giving to the community was acknowledged with a presentation of public commendations and proclamations, and the Trustees and staff are please that the Hyannis Public Library is the permanent home of these unique cultural, historical, and literary research materials
.
