Guidelines for Use of the Computers

 

Computers are shut down at 4:15 p. m. on days of 5 p. m. closings and at 7:15 p. m. on days the library closes at 8 p. m. Therefore the last sign up is at 4:15 p. m. and 7:15 p. m respectively.

 

  1. Computers are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
  2. Users must have basic knowledge of PC equipment and software. Instruction is not available.
  3. All users must sign in and sign out at the Security/Circulation Desk.
  4. Adults and students Grade 9 and above use the computers located in the Adult Services Department.
  5. Children ages 6 and under must be supervised by a responsible adult while using the computer.
  6. Users may sign in once per day for a maximum of 30 minutes, no exceptions.
  7. No outside diskettes or software may be used in the computers at the Hyannis Public Library.
  8. Prints are 10 cents per page, black and white only. Pick up and pay for printing at the Circulation desk. Unclaimed printing is discarded.

 

It is PROHIBITED to:

  1. Turn the computer on or off. A library staff person will do this.
  2. Bring food or drink into the computer area.
  3. Use any Hyannis Public Library computers to ÒcrackÓ or ÒhackÓ (gain unauthorized access to) any computer systems.
  4. Obstruct another userÕs work by consuming large amounts of system resources (disk space, CPU time) or by deliberately crashing any Hyannis Public Library computers.
  5. Attempt to read another personÕs files.
  6. Illegally distribute software (ÒpiratingÓ) and violate copyright laws.
  7. Install software.
  8. Transmit threatening, obscene, or harassing materials.
  9. Transmit computer viruses.
  10. Deliberately display obscene materials. (MGL, Chapter 271, ¤29 and MGL Chapter 272, ¤31)[1]
