out of a bind!

Fall 2006
Dear Friends,
The Hyannis Public Library needs your help! Our library is located in the heart of downtown Hyannis and is truly the cultural center of our community, drawing its users from a diverse population. However, the Hyannis Library is struggling to maintain services to this unique community as we battle a serious financial shortfall. We need your help now as we are facing many unforeseen capital expenses.
You and your neighbors of all ages have come to rely on and enjoy all of our services that include:
• Current fiction and non-fiction reading materials
• Books on tape and CD
• Over 200 magazine and newspaper subscriptions
• Language learning materials
• Downloadable audio-books
• Videos and DVDs for all ages
• Story hours for children and day-care centers
• Literacy learning center
• Travel planning information
• Job hunt and interview preparation
• Health care information
• Business information
• Free computer and Internet access used by 50,000 patrons in the last year
• And much, much more
All of these services are FREE. However, the Town of Barnstable only funds 65% of our necessary expenses. One third of our total annual budget of $598,000 needs to come from caring individuals like you and me.
This is why we are asking you now to help us reach our goal of raising $200,000 by the end of the year. These funds are necessary for us to maintain our opening hours, and continuing our ability to offer new books and other materials like DVD’s and magazine subscriptions.
Please support our Annual Fund Drive and mail your tax-deductible contribution in the enclosed reply envelope. With your help and your neighbor’s help the Hyannis Public Library can continue to provide its vital library services to our community.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Charles Sabatt
President
