Guidelines for Use of the Hyannis Public Library Computers

Computers are shut down at 4:15 p. m. on days of 5 p.m. closings and at 7:15 p.m. on days the library closes at 8 p.m. Therefore the last sign up is at 4:15 p.m. and 7:15 p. m respectively.

Computers are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Users must have basic knowledge of PC equipment and software. Instruction is not available.
All users must sign in and sign out at the Security/Circulation Desk.
Adults and students Grade 9 and above use the computers located in the Adult Services Department.
Children ages 6 and under must be supervised by a responsible adult while using the computer.
Users may sign in once per day for a maximum of 30 minutes, no exceptions.
One user at a station in the computer lab. No visitors are allowed in the computer lab. Users may share stations located outside the computer lab.
No outside diskettes or software may be used in the computers at the Hyannis Public Library. No items are to be placed in or connected to the floppy disk drive, the CD drive, or the USB port. No outside electronic devices are to be plugged into or connected to the computer.
Prints are 10 cents per page, black and white only. Pick up and pay for printing at the Circulation desk. Unclaimed printing is discarded.
If you want to save your work, you must use a diskette purchased at the Circulation Desk for $1.00 each.

It is PROHIBITED to:
Turn the computer on or off. A library staff person will do this.
Bring food or drink into the computer area.
Use any Hyannis Public Library computers to “crack” or “hack” (gain unauthorized access to) any computer systems.
Obstruct another user’s work by consuming large amounts of system resources (disk space, CPU time) or by deliberately crashing any Hyannis Public Library computers.
Attempt to read another person’s files.
Illegally distribute software (“pirating”) and violate copyright laws.
Install software whether in diskette or CD format.
Transmit threatening, obscene, or harassing materials.
Transmit computer viruses.
Deliberately display obscene materials. (MGL, Chapter 271, §29 and MGL Chapter 272, §31)
