Guidelines for Use of the Computers
GUIDELINES FOR USE OF THE COMPUTERSMonday, Thursdays, Fridays: Library closes at 5 p.m. Computers are shut down at 4:15 p.m.- last sign up is 4:15 p.m.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays: Library closes at 7 p.m. Computers are shut down at 6:15 p.m.- last sign up is 6:15 p.m.
Saturdays: Library closes at 2 p.m. Computers are shut down at 1:15 p.m.- last sign up is 1:15 p.m.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays: Library closes at 7 p.m. Computers are shut down at 6:15 p.m.- last sign up is 6:15 p.m.
Saturdays: Library closes at 2 p.m. Computers are shut down at 1:15 p.m.- last sign up is 1:15 p.m.
- Computers are available for use at no charge on a first-com-first-serve basis.
- Users must have basic knowledge of PC equipment and of software applications. Instruction is not available.
- All users must sign in and sign out with the Security Officer/Circulation Desk.
- Adults and students in Grade 9 and above may use the computers located in the Adult Services Department.
- Students (in grade 8 and below) must use the computers in the Children's Department.
- Children ages 6 and under must be supervised by a responsible adult while using the computers.
- Users may sign in for a maximum of 2 hours per day in 30 minute increments. If other people are waiting to sign in for the computers, a user must stop at the end of the current 30 minute session. The balance of the 2 hour daily time limit may be used when no people are waiting to use the computers.
- No non-library provided software is to be installed on any Hyannis Public Library computer.
- Printing is in black and white only, your paper or ours, and you will be charged for every page that you print. If you do not know how to print, ask a staff person to help you.
It is PROHIBITED to:
- Turn the computer on or off. A library staff person will do this.
- Bring food or drink into the computer area.
- Use cell phones in the library. Cell phones should be turned off.
- Use any Hyannis Public Library computers to "crack" or "hack" (gain unauthorized access to) any computer systems.
- Obstruct another user's work by consuming large amounts of system resources (disc space, CPU time) or by deliberately crashing any Hyannis Public Library computers.
- Attempt to read another person's files.
- Illegally distribute software ("pirating") and violate copy laws.
- Install software of any kind on any Hyannis Public Library Computer.
- Transmit threatening, obscene, or harassing materials.
- Knowingly transmit any computer virus.
- Deliberately display obscene materials. (MGL, Chapter 271, 29 and MGL Chapter 272, 311)*
